ERC RUNS TO BEAT BREAST CANCER

For the second year in a row, ERC employees laced up their running shoes and participated in the annual Donna Marathon to beat breast cancer.

“ERC raised funds earlier this year selling t-shirts, and we were able to allocate a percentage of that money towards paying registrations for our staff to participate in the race,” said Gloria Rylee, Global Employee Engagement Manager at ERC.

Named after Donna Deegan, founder of the DONNA Foundation—a non-profit organization that funds research and provides financial assistance for those affected by breast cancer and their families—the Donna Marathon is the foundation’s largest fundraising event and the nation’s first marathon dedicated to fighting breast cancer.

“It is a great honor for our ERC family to be represented at this year’s Donna Run Marathon. With various members of our staff who have experienced hardships within their personal circles due to breast cancer, it was important for ERC to have the opportunity to contribute to such a notable cause,” said Rylee.

The one-of-a-kind event completely takes over Jacksonville, Fla., and its nearby beaches (Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach and Jacksonville Beach), hosting over 10,000 runners from all 50 states and 20 countries. Offering a 5K, half marathon, marathon, ultramarathon and event challenges, runners of all ages and skill levels join the cause.

Many of ERC’s employees took advantage of these opportunities and made the most of the 12th Annual Donna Marathon Weekend. Even ERC’s President & CEO, Marty Sarim, got in on the fun, running in Saturday’s 5K, while ERC’s Security Analyst II, Michelle Keyser, tackled the marathon on Sunday.

While running the races can make an important statement and contribute to the cause, there are other ways ERC employees got involved. Several employees volunteered at the DONNA Expo, where runners picked up their race packets and shopped for last-minute gear. Others worked various jobs on the 5K course.

“Volunteers were stationed at various locations throughout the race weekend,” added Rylee. “This was the second time for our team, and we look forward to bigger and better opportunities in future Donna Run’s to come.”
