For the second installment in this series, we spoke with them about the lessons they’ve learned during their time here, what they think is the best part of working for the company, and their advice for people who are new to the organization.

Began ERC journey as an Agent for Customer Service/Tech Support in 2013

At what point did you realize there was real potential to grow professionally at ERC?
When there was an opening in the recruitment department, and I was given the chance to apply despite only having been in the company for 3 months.

From your perspective, what makes ERC a great company to work for?
The work environment, the culture, the open-door policy. That, and the fact that this company has given me the chance to show my skills.

Any advice for people just starting at ERC?
Embrace the workload. If you want to grow, you first have to take baby steps and then you can walk. Always maintain a good attitude towards change and be positive.

Began ERC journey as a Corporate Auditor in 2014

Did you start at ERC thinking you would grow professionally with the company, or did you think it was just a job?
I started at ERC thinking that I would use the experience I had with digging into problems gained in previous employment and apply it to a new job where I would learn a little about the collections industry. However, I quickly realized that Compliance Auditing is where I really belong in the professional world and, more specifically, at ERC.

At what point did you realize there was real potential to grow professionally at ERC?
It only took about 6 months under an excellent management team to realize that I could learn a tremendous amount. I also realized that I wanted to learn all I could about the collections industry, the auditing world and ERC itself so that I could become a better auditor and employee, making my team, and ERC, stronger as a whole. Now I am part of a team that continuously raises the bar.

From your perspective, what makes ERC a great company to work for?
The leadership. When I started here four years ago, I found that senior leadership was not only accessible, but incredibly willing to help. It was people like Kelly Paul and Jason Davis who allowed me to take time out of their day to explain a process, answer a question, or just point me in the right direction. I would see Marty walking down the hall and he would take the time to say hello and ask how the most recent audit was going. These simple acts gave me great confidence in the leaders of ERC. Now, four years later, even as these people have become increasingly busier, they still take the time to help, listen, and provide direction. That is inspirational to me.

Did you start at ERC thinking you would grow professionally with the company, or did you see it as just a job?
At first this was just a job to pay bills, but as time progressed and I started advancing due to good performance and behavior, I realized I could really use my skills to have a career while contributing to the growth of the company.

What is the best lesson you’ve learned along the way?
Learn to trust people, be committed to your work, and play the long game.

From your perspective, what makes ERC a great company to work for?
Business is important, but business is normally about numbers, and we are a family. ERC is all about people, and by boosting human potential and building relationships, our numbers stand on their own.
